Troubleshooting Steps to Make Finder Work Fine Again

We all have experienced different problems with Finder. It can freeze from time to time or fail to launch. Fortunately, there are some easy troubleshooting steps to make Finder work fine again.

Force quitting and relaunching Finder

Click on the Apple logo and select Force Quit. After that, from the list of applications select Finder and hit Relaunch.

Removing Finder preferences

Open the Go menu with the Option (Alt) key pressed - Library - Preferences and locate the file called ‘com.apple.finder.plist’. Move it to the trash and restart your computer.

Relaunching Finder using Terminal.

If the steps above don’t work, you will need to relaunch Finder using the Terminal. Open the Terminal and type in the following command:

open /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app
